In a significant stride towards bolstering road safety standards in Uganda, the recent launch of the 2nd Official Joint Smart Bus Drivers and Operators Training Program showcased a unified effort involving key stakeholders led by MAC East Africa and ISUZU East Africa as primary sponsors. This collaborative initiative brought together prominent entities such as the Uganda Police, Ministry of Works & Transport, Uganda Driving Standard Agency (UDSA), Uganda Red Cross Society, and the Ugandan Bus Operators Association (UBOA) in a resolute mission to elevate safety measures across the nation.
Running from the 5th to the 8th of November 2024, the 2nd Joint Smart Bus Drivers and Operators Training program engaged over 360 bus drivers from the different bus operators in Uganda, this comprehensive program encompassed both theoretical and practical modules, providing participating drivers with a platform to share their challenges and experiences.
Under the guidance of expert trainers from Isuzu East Africa, Eng. Solomon Muasya and Eng. Khaoya Humphreys offered technical support on the Isuzu brand and provision of genuine spare parts for optimized vehicle performance while, the team from Uganda Driving Standard Agency (UDSA) shared valuable insights and training on the defensive driving techniques, proper usage of road signs, and safety protocols with the primary objective of imparting essential skills and knowledge essential for safe and responsible navigation of Uganda’s roadways.
Noteworthy participation from the Uganda Police ensures rigorous enforcement of road safety regulations, while the Ministry of Works & Transport spearheads infrastructure enhancements to augment road conditions. Uganda Driving Standard Agency’s (UDSA) expertise in driver training and education, coupled with Ugandan Bus Operators Association’s (UBOA) advocacy for safety and accountability within the industry, collectively emphasize the significance of abiding by traffic rules and prioritizing passenger and pedestrians’ safety in the transportation sector.
Through the combined efforts of MAC East Africa, ISUZU East Africa, the Uganda Police, Ministry of Works & Transport, Uganda Driving Standard Agency, and Ugandan Bus Operators Association, the 2nd Official Joint Smart Bus Drivers and Operators Training Program underscores the potency of collaborative endeavors in fostering a secure road environment for all Ugandans. By emphasizing education, training, and alliance, these stakeholders are paving the way for a future where road safety stands as a paramount concern, benefiting drivers, passengers, and pedestrians alike during the festive season and beyond.
The significance of this training extends beyond a one-time event, as it marks the beginning of a recurring series set to include a wide array of organizations and governmental entities. By committing to regular training sessions, MAC East Africa and ISUZU East Africa are reaffirming its dedication to promoting safer roads and fostering a culture of responsible driving in Uganda.
